Map of Defibrillators in Castlebar welcome A map showing the location of defibrillators Castlebar Town is to be drawn up and made publically available. Welcoming this move, Sinn Féin Councillor, Thérèse Ruane said: "I welcome the unanimous support of my colleagues on Castlebar Town Council for this very important motion. I proposed this motion as I think it's crucial that there are public access defibrillators in the town and that their location is mapped and made widely available. Cardiovascular disease is Ireland's biggest killer; it's estimated that 5,000 deaths from sudden cardiac arrest in Ireland each year. For every minute without CPR a person's chance of survival decreases by 7-10%. "A new group has being established called the Castlebar Heartsaver Group. They plan to provide training in CPR and in the use of a defibrillator to members of the public in Castlebar. The first step is to map the location of defibrillators, to identify any gaps and ensure that public access defibrillators are available in key locations in the town. I believe they should be supported in their efforts and the passing of this motion brings their aims one step closer. Quick access to a defibrillators saves lives." CRÍOCH.
